Healing Her: A Lesbian/Sapphic Medical Romance (Pulse Medical Book 1)

Ashley’s a full-on ice queen with a god complex (seriously hard to like at first), and Jen’s the calm, wear-your-heart-on-her-scrubs type who immediately gets under her skin. Forced to work together, and yeah—the tension starts tensioning. 😮‍💨 I loved that the story actually dove into transplant and organ donation—it was detailed but totally readable. It made the romance feel more grounded and a little different from the usual hospital fluff. Medical romances are like catnip for me, and I’m happy to report this one delivered. It’s short (151 pages) but brings the feelings, a bit of drama, fun banter, and spicy.

Warning ahead for spoilers! I really liked this book, well worth buying. The characters were cool, and I truly hope City gets her own book soon! My only “complaint” and why it gets four stars is that the author sets up this great romantic conflict between the two MCs after they come together (even having one begin the process of finding a new job out of state!) but then has it all resolved in one quick meetup at the airport as Jen is about to fly out to the Mayo Clinic for a third round/final interview before accepting a job there!?! That broke the believability of the story for me. No medical professional at Jen’s level would be that far in the new job hunt (that quickly) and just give it up like that. The negative impact on her professional reputation would be significant. Basically, the conflict seemed really rushed at the end. Too little time was given for dealing with Ashley’s emotional issues (stemming from the death of her father and the really unhealthy coping mechanisms her mom used and forced on Ashley from age 11/12). The author set up a great scenario for some emotional angst and growth by Ashley with matching emotional recap by Jen/hanging out with Maria, and then didn’t follow through. Again, overall a fun and spicy read, just missed being amazing by “thaaaaaat much!”

Healing Her may have been short, but it truly left an impression. I connected with the characters right away—their chemistry felt real, and their emotional journey was tender and genuine. I appreciated how the story didn’t try to do too much but still managed to feel complete and heartwarming. It was exactly the kind of sapphic romance I love: soft, sincere, and full of hope. I just wish there was more time with these two!
