Description

The Arrington and Blakesley families have been bound by blood and alliance for generations, and for Roswynd and ThAron, that history was once the foundation of an unbreakable friendship. They were inseparable, two souls destined to rule side by side, until a shattering tragedy and a poisonous, deep-seated lie tore their world apart. Years later, the warmth of their childhood bond has hardened into a sharp, jagged edge of resentment. Now, as political maneuverings threaten to destabilize the Kingdoms of Gyldren, these former friends find themselves locked in a dangerous game of shadows and duty. As an omegaverse fantasy, this story masterfully weaves high-stakes court intrigue with the intense, magnetic pull of fated connections. You will experience a delicious, slow-burn tension that crackles in every encounter as Roswynd and ThAron navigate the treacherous space between past devotion and present hostility. This is a rich, immersive tale of loyalty, betrayal, and the undeniable chemistry that lingers even when hearts are walled off. If you crave enemies-to-lovers angst set against a lush medieval backdrop, this journey through the Kingdoms of Gyldren offers a perfect blend of romance and epic world-building. Prepare to be captivated by a love story forged in fire and struggle.

A solid fantasy read with delicious enemies-to-lovers tropes & F/F omegaverse!

Fantasy is my fave genre, and enemies-to-lovers is one of my favourite tropes. This book did not disappoint! There was so much delicious angsty goodness that I loved. Technically this is book 2 in the whole series, but book 1 was a standalone with a different pair so you needn't have read it (Of Iron and Gold). This book is part 1 of a trilogy. Tropes/tags - tragic family backstory - dead mother - friends to enemies to lovers - childhood friends - background war - arranged marriage - F/F omegaverse - butch alpha/femme omega - jealous & possessive alpha - royal/royal - butch top teaches femme bottom how to use weaponry - fully consensual, though with some angsty feels and undernegotiated touch - some homophobia and fantasy gender-nonconforming phobia (e.g. antipathy towards alpha women) How it made me feel Tharon (the butch alpha) is unrepentently badass, which I loved, though both girls had a bit more softness in their youth than I'd have preferred. Roswynd, in particular, does not imo have the pragmatism needed in a royal of her birth order, though her compassion/softness provides a pleasing contrast to Tharon's cool demeanour. This book knows well its fantasy & omegaverse tropes and is unashamed in nailing them, and I loved that. There's one line I screamed about on twitter in particular 😂 It's a bit frustrating at times that the characters don't realise they're in a fantasy novel; you just want to shake them and break the fourth wall. Because of the…

Fantastic start to this series

The Arringtons and Blakesleys have long been allies and Roswynd and ThAron grew up the best of friends. A tragedy (and a believed lie?) drives the families and friends apart and into war. Part 1 of their story drew me in quickly and kept me invested. The world building, the character building, and the past and present stories do a fabulous job bringing this story to life and invoked multiple emotions from me throughout. Roswynd, an Omega, is strong, intelligent, and stubborn. Her reservations and curiosity about Tharon and her hopes and devastation about their relationship and where they stand are palpable Tharon, an Alpha, has used her pain of loss and revenge to build herself from an uncertain and often reserved Alpha unsure of her place into her people’s most powerful warrior. Tharon knows 2 things: the Arringtons will pay and Roswynd will be hers no matter what. Her cold demeanor may soften sporadically as her Alpha seeks to care for wife but the walls always rebuild quickly. They have always wanted each other. They were always supposed to be together. Will they break each other even further or find a way to rebuild what was? It’s a wonderfully heart-wrenching, and at times heart-breaking, journey they are both on so far and the wait for Part 2 & 3 is going to test every last ounce of patience I have.
