Description

The flames at Phoenix Ridge are nothing compared to the heat between two women tethered by a complicated past. Elle, a dedicated firefighter with the department’s elite all-female crew, has spent years extinguishing the wreckage of her own mistakes. She has built a life defined by courage and service, but her equilibrium shatters the moment Maya, her former flame, walks into the local hospital as the new medical lead. Their history is a smoldering ruin of misunderstandings and missed opportunities, yet the initial spark remains dangerously alive. As they navigate high-stakes emergencies that test their physical and emotional limits, they must confront the psychological scars that drove them apart. This is a story of profound healing and the messy, beautiful reality of redemption. Can two people who once burned each other to the ground find a way to rebuild among the ashes? Blending pulse-pounding action sequences with an intimate exploration of growth and forgiveness, this second-chance romance proves that people can change. It is a heartfelt, deeply human journey through the fires of regret toward the possibility of a shared future. If you are looking for a story that celebrates the resilience of the heart, you have found it.

Action and second chance at love

Elle and Maya had a prior 3 year relationship. That is -- until Elle ruined everything. Now fate has them working together. Elle, a firefighter and Maya, a doctor. Maya has a lot to process. On one hand she hates Elle for what she did. On the other hand, by golly, she still loves her. Elle has to prove to Maya that she is truly sorry for what she did and her love is still evident too. Oh, my--but they went through some rough times together. One thing after another like earthquakes and fire, kept bringing them together at the same place. Would things ever work out for them? This was a really good story because this reader got to know each of these strong women by their emotions and their actions. Well worth the read and that epilogue was just amazing!

Action romance

Emily Hayes did an excellent job describing action sequences. I enjoyed how she went back and forth between Elle and Maya. The second chance romance was realistic and therefore believable.
