Description

Chicago, 1994. The air is thick with the smell of stale cigarettes, neon lights, and the desperate, electric hum of a city that never sleeps. Jax is a rockstar on the brink of superstardom, living a life of excess and hidden longings. When he stumbles into an underground world of grit and shadows, he encounters a young man whose innocence is both a mirror and a catalyst for everything Jax has been running from. Sugar In The Raw is a visceral, unflinching exploration of identity and desire. This is not a polished fairy tale; it is a raw, heart-wrenching journey through the complexities of bisexuality and the blurred lines between salvation and exploitation. As Jax finds himself drawn into a connection that defies labels and societal expectations, he must confront the ghosts of his past and the fragility of his future. Sherry Wood masterfully captures the atmosphere of a bygone era, weaving a narrative that is as provocative as it is deeply human. Prepare for a story that lingers long after the final page, challenging your perceptions of love and sacrifice. This is a bold, uncompromising look at the moments that change us forever, set against the backdrop of a music scene defined by intensity.

Brutal

This book was banned on other sites due to the graphic nature when it comes to the details of an underage male prostitute in the 90s in Chicago. I cannot say that i blame such concernment. SITR is told from two different perspectives, from Jack, the hustler, and Josie, the girl he has fallen in love with. It could have been a romance because the loneliness and pining of a young girl (Josie loses her virginity to Jack) is understood and beautifully expressed, but it leans to far to the darker side of things. A brutal read.
