Description

Small-town life in Oakhaven is supposed to be predictable, but for widowed surgeon Cole, his world is a chaotic loop of hospital shifts and raising his spirited daughter. When Jamie, a free-spirited professional nanny with a penchant for luxury cars and a radiant smile, arrives on his doorstep, the friction is immediate. Cole is the definition of grumpy, guarded, and perpetually overworked, while Jamie brings a vibrant, sunshine-filled energy that threatens to dismantle every wall Cole has carefully built around his heart. This isn't just a story about childcare; it is a slow-burn exploration of identity and unexpected connection. As the two men navigate the quiet beauty of their rural surroundings, their professional boundaries blur into something far more intimate. Through shared meals at the local diner and quiet moments stolen after the house falls asleep, they discover that love does not follow a prescribed path. Whether it is the tension of a Regency-style dance or the high-stakes pressure of the operating room, Jamie and Cole must learn to balance their pasts against a future neither expected. This is a tender, erotic, and deeply human tale about finding the courage to let someone new change everything you thought you knew about your own heart.

Lost in the details

At the beginning of the story Jamie is driving a Volvo that is too good for the town. Once Marce returns Cole is driving the Volvo. At the restaurant Jamie tells the librarian that Cole was a former employer. When Cole is having his meltdown he whines consistently about calling Jamie an employer at the restaurant. They are little things that should have been caught in editing but were not. I find them distracting.
