Rebecca did it again. At this point... who is even surprised? She is an insta buy author for me, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. This book was an interesting mix between 'Man on' and 'The try line' but in the best way. Silas' & Gideon's story is the perfect example of "it's always been you." They are freaking soulmates, and no one can convince of that. The Forbidden element in this one was so interesting to follow, at least for me. I loved how it was emotionally problematic, but not physically. Idk how to explain this properly without spoiling it, so... you'll have to trust me, bro 😅. I think you will understand once you read the book. Lily and Addy were absolutely perfect, and their presence in the story was the icing on the cake. I loved every moment they were showing up on page, and never felt like they were taking away from the action, en contraire, I think it added so much depth to everything that was going on. I advise you to check the TW because there are some things in here that could make you uncomfortable. Just to be on the safe side, if you use to have triggers, check them. The religious aspect of the story was what had me on edge whenever mentioned. This story shows once again what religious trauma looks like and how it can affect people long term. This book really leans into the “secrets ruin everything” trope, and wow… it delivers the chaos from the very beginning. Silas and Gideon’s story is built on layers of miscommunication, hidden truths, and years of emotional baggage. The tension is strong, especially with the forced proximity and shared past, and I was hooked early on trying to piece everything together. What worked for me was the emotional core. You can feel how much history they have, how deeply things were left unresolved, and how hard it is for both of them to face the truth. When they finally start talking, it is satisfying and long overdue. That said, the biggest frustration is exactly that, the lack of communication. So many problems could have been avoided if the characters had just been honest earlier. Lily’s refusal to reveal the truth, especially when it was clearly hurting everyone around her, felt unnecessarily dragged out and at times hard to justify. It added drama, yes, but also made parts of the story feel repetitive and a bit exhausting. I did enjoy the twists, especially toward the end. The story kept me guessing, even if I expected something more dramatic behind certain secrets. The emotional payoff was still there, even if the reasoning behind some decisions did not fully land for me.
