Description

In the glittering, high-stakes world of Regency society, reputation is everything and secrets are the deadliest currency. When two men who have spent years trading sharp barbs and cooler stares find their paths unexpectedly intertwined, the rigid boundaries of their Victorian lives begin to fray. What starts as a bitter rivalry rooted in long-held misunderstandings gradually softens into something far more dangerous. As they navigate the suffocating expectations of the ton, they discover that their shared history is not a barrier, but a bridge to a connection neither dared to imagine. Told through an intimate, alternating dual point of view, this story captures the messy, beautiful evolution from sworn enemies to something profoundly more tender. The prose invites you into a slow-burn romance where every stolen glance and accidental touch carries the weight of a forbidden confession. It is a masterful exploration of pride, vulnerability, and the transformative power of being truly seen by the one person you thought you hated most. Perfectly balancing historical tension with modern emotional depth, this novel offers a rich, immersive experience for anyone who believes that the most difficult hearts are always the most rewarding to win.

So sweet, full of love and hope!

What a fantastic follow up to the first book! I really love that the author uses both protagonists POV throughout the book, they switch each chapter. I think it helps cement yourself into both our main leads thoughts and feelings. I loved what a big softie Bobby ends up being, it was adorable. And James, he was so difficult in the beginning of the book! But the author does a fantastic job of showing you his background, his fears, and his mental state that really let you understand why he is being the way he is. I was rooting for James to finally see what a supportive and loving partner Bobby would be and the whole Havenfort/Mason clan supporting their love. And when he finally does, I melted! This book is realistic for queer romance at the time but the author writes the supporting characters and families with so much hope, love, and respect for our queer leads that it is just perfect. "It's the world that's wrong, not us". Better together!! You gotta pick up this book and the first one too if you haven't read it yet. They are fantastic and I hope the author continues writing books like these, I will be scooping them up, that's for sure!

Pretty enjoyable

I really enjoyed the writing style and the premise was interesting but the beginning was so slow. It didn't pick up for me until around 30-35%. It was not grabbing my attention whatsoever up until that point. ended up having to pick up the audiobook on release day and tandem read them to keep my focus (although it did help that the story picked up). did like the solution they came up with in the end to be able to live their lives happily during the time period they're in. I would definitely pick up something from this author in the future because did enjoy the writing If you are a fan of historicals you would probably enjoy this.
