coming back from the dead isn't easy on Baxter. Learning to be a part of the living world is even harder, so he copes the only way he knows how. When his coping skills gets in the way of his work, he is put on leave to figure his stuff out or not come back. Lake is a geeky historian who has a fondness for down of their luck younger men, that doesn't go to well for him. When meeting Baxter on a bad night he cannot help but what to help the troubled man. Little does he realize they're really the same ish age. Together they start to uncover Baxter's past to hopefully help him move on and start really living with this second chance he was given. With the help of the Paranormal Problems Bureau, they start an adventure that could be his freedom or his final death. Baxter learns to let Caspian in after pushing him out these past few months to really show him what it is like to have a loving and supportive family. Lake & Baxter start off somewhat slow, but I think that is the only way these two would be able to build the bond they did than their usual no attachment sex. Lake is one of those characters that you cannot help but love and appreciate what he brings to the table in his dorkiness and calmness in the way he supports Baxter in dealing with all that he is. He does it in a way that most people would be unable to pull off, where you feel the support but don't feel he is forcing Baxter to change but to grow. It was fun to catch up with the previous members of the PPB and see how…

So is it really an age gap if 19 of those years Baxter was sort of dead? Baxter gets his HEA in the fourth entry in such a great PNR series. Baxter, having been re-alived from being mostly dead in Callisto/Asher story meets Lake as he is recovering from trying to chase down his bed stealing ex-. Baxter has struggled to find his way since he was “resurrected”, Lake sees through all his various coping mechanisms and their relationship clicks into place. But Baxter’s past must be dealt with and that past rears its ugly head. Whew, it’s quite the tale. Of course our favorites from PPB are part of their story. It would be difficult to read this as a standalone since it builds on the other stories. And yes, we’re getting Leo next.

Fourth in series (Paranormal Problems), best if read in order. Paranormal. Age gap. Slow burn. Dual POV. Heed content warnings. Brought back to life after being murdered is not an easy road, and Baxter isn’t dealing with it well, drowning in liquor and men is putting his job at the Paranormal Problems Bureau at risk. Historian Lake is a sucker for a sob story, but there’s something about helping Baxter that goes beyond just attraction and ends up being a quick fall into feelings. What starts as a messy meet-cute ends up combining an investigation into a sort-of-murder with a relationship that just clicks. I was slow to warm to Baxter, but dealing with his past really helps him mature and appreciate Lake and all his kindness. Lake’s historical fact blurting when nervous made him endearing, and Baxter’s good heart underneath all his flirting was nice to see after all his playboy tendencies get curbed as he spends time with Lake. Overall, an entertaining and super sweet addition to this really fun and sometimes danger-filled series. 4.5 rounded up
