Fake dating trope - one bed - opposites attract - road-trip fling, need I say more? This had all my favorite elements and it was an awesome read. Lia needs a date for her brother’s wedding. Enter Grace, who charms Lia’s family and then decides to accompany Lia back to the states to resolve a “mystery” that’s shaped her entire life. 👀 The first part of the book is set in London and with the whole fake dating / one bed piece was undeniably fun and hot. However, the book really shined for me during the second part where it got a little more serious but truly romantic. As the two embark on their roadtrip, I loved how bit by bit they start falling in love, even though denial is uttered every step of the way. There’s also oodles of steamy scenes during said roadtrip and the tension between both these characters is super 🔥. I loved both these characters but Grace’s was particularly complex, having had that one incident influence all her decisions and color her view of relationships and love. I also enjoyed Lia and Grace’s flirty bantering, arguing, understanding of each other given how polar opposite they are about approaching problems. Lia being the talker, analyzer type against Grace who’s likes to brood and run away from issues she’d rather not face. Rosie and Jane from “Read between the lines” make an appearance as well and add a lot of lightness to the whole narrative. This was a sweet & comforting read. I loved Lia in Read Between the Lines and I was eager to meet the elusive Grace & see how they would get on. The chemistry between them was fantastic, and I loved how well they worked together when fake dating, with Grace charming Lia’s family & Lia providing Grace with a sympathetic ear without any pity attached. I really liked how their relationship developed - they fought it for as long as they could, but we all knew that the inevitable was going to happen! I could understand Grace’s point of view - she’d had so many bad experiences with commitment & love - but it broke me a little when she left Lia. There’s always going to be conflict in a relationship when someone’s first instinct is to run, but I am glad she found a reason to work through this. I loved how they both encouraged each other to grow, even before they were a couple.
