Song of the Sea: An MM Merman Romance

Such a sweet story between two very different "people"- One being a merman. Calder was a Prince of the Sea. His parents had just told him He had to marry a prince from another kingdom in an arranged marriage to keep peace. Calder agreed but only if he spent 1 year above. Originally he went researching the big companies destroying the water. He also worked at a coffee house to pay the bills. He wore big noise cancelling headphones. And thick glasses. Denver, just buried his Dad. He was running his Dad's business. But it was something a customer told him one day that stuck. About his dreams. So he pulled out his guitar and started playing again. Then he signed up to play at the place Calder worked. He sang and sang but it was his last song about his Dad that caught Calder's attention. He takes off his headphones. So what happens, well it is a swimmingly good tail (yes I meant tail) to dive into! READ THE REST! It is a great love story across the land and ocean. 10/10

This was another great novel from Duckie. She spun a magical story of a underwater world (that I wish I could visit) and beautifully integrated it with the modern world. The main characters and the love they shared was very sweet and there were numerous moments that made me laugh or made my heart melt at how sweet it all is. I love all the side characters and how supportive they all are. I also love the mentions of Crow’s Nest from Duckie’s Love Bank series. With it all added together, this made for a lovely read that mixes the contemporary world would a touch of magic. Can’t wait to see what Duckie brings us next!

Song of the Sea was a sweet, insta-love, fated mates romance story between a human and a mermaid. The chemistry between Calder and Denver was there though their relationship could've used a bit more of fleshing out. Some of their moments together were sweet and I did like a couple of those, but some of them really didn't add much in general. I liked Calder and Denver as characters though Calder had the stronger character arc of the two. Denver's way of processing grief was something that was handled pretty well. It was nice to find out that there was no instant magical solution to the huge problem that was the reason as to why these two met. However, I'd have preferred to have seen a bit more with regards to that mission of Calder. Also, that scene with the sea-lion pup was so cute. I would've wanted more of that. When I saw how the two got their HEA, it made me think that there might be a book about Calder's brother. I hope that's the case as I am willing to read that too. Overall, this book was a decent read. It just didn't click for me the way I wanted to. I still recommend giving this book a try if you're looking for a sweet merman romance story with a dash of spice, some hurt and comfort moments and a HEA. Also, the illustrations inside were adorable! I hope there would be more. This would be 3.75 stars out of 5 stars for me.
